Can you plagiarize examples
Plagiarism clearly explained with examples
If you adopt ideas, sentences or paragraphs from other people in your scientific work without mentioning them, then this is called plagiarism.
You avoid plagiarism by quoting correctly.
This means that for every quote or paraphrase you not only have to cite the source directly in the text, but also list it completely in the bibliography.
When does plagiarism arise in science?
Plagiarism in science occurs when you copy sentences or passages of text without drawing attention to the original author.
Plagiarism therefore occurs if the source is cited ...
- ... is not indicated in the text next to the quoted or paraphrased text passage.
- ... is not listed in the bibliography.
- ... is given inadequately or incorrectly.
- ... is left out completely.
Types of plagiarism
Plagiarism is not always just copying sentences. We'll show you when there is plagiarism and what 6 different types of plagiarism there are.
Types of plagiarism:
- Full plagiarism
You pass off an entire foreign scientific work as yours.
- Plagiarism of ideas
You copy the idea of the content of a source without referring to the author.
- Structural plagiarism
You take on the structure of another scientific paper.
You are submitting one of your old scientific papers or larger sections of them again.
For example, if you incorporate an older term paper into your bachelor thesis without indicating this, you are committing plagiarism.
- Copy-and-paste plagiarism and mosaic plagiarism
You copy entire paragraphs from another source and place them like a mosaic without any indication.
- Translation plagiarism
You translate foreign language texts without citing the source.
