You must be born again

Jesus and Nicodemus. The rebirth

3 There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a chief of the Jews. At night he came to Jesus and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who came from God; because no one can do these signs that you are doing unless God is with him!

Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I tell you, if someone is not born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God! Nicodemus said to him: How can a person be born when he is old? Surely he can't walk in his mother's womb a second time and be born?

Jesus answered: Verily, verily, I tell you, if someone is not born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God! What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the spirit is spirit. Do not be surprised that I told you: You must be born again! The wind blows where it wants and you hear its rustling; but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So everyone is who is born of the Spirit.

Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can this be done?

10 Jesus answered and said to him, You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this? 11 Verily, verily, I say to you, we speak what we know and we testify to what we have seen; yet you do not accept our testimony. 12 Do you not believe when I tell you about earthly things, how will you believe when I tell you about heavenly things? 13 And no one went up into heaven except He who came down out of heaven, the Son of man, who is in heaven.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him will not be judged; but whoever does not believe has already been judged because he did not believe in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 In this, however, the judgment consists, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness more than light; for their works were evil. 20 For whoever does evil hates the light and does not come to the light so that his works are not punished[a] become. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed that they were done in God.

New testimony of John the Baptist

22 Afterwards Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judea, and there he stayed with them and baptized. 23 But John also baptized in Enon, near Salim[b]because there was a lot of water. And they came there and were baptized. 24 Because John had not yet been thrown into prison.

25 A dispute arose between John's disciples and a Jew about purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, to whom you testified, behold, he is baptizing, and everyone comes to him!

27 John answered and said, A man cannot receive anything[c]unless it is given to him from heaven. 28 You yourselves testify to me that I said: I am not the Christ, but I am sent before him. 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the bridegroom's friend, who stands there and hears him, is delighted at the bridegroom's voice. This joy of mine is now fulfilled. 30 It has to grow, but I have to lose weight.

31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is of the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies what he has seen and heard, and no one accepts his testimony. 33 But whoever accepts his testimony confirms that God is truthful. 34 For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give [him] the spirit according to measure. 35 The father loves the son and has given everything into his hand.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; but whoever does not believe the son[d]He will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
