Elon Musk likes anime and wants to build giant mech robots

On his Twitter account, Elon Musk not only reports regularly about his companies Tesla and SpaceX, but also reports on personal interests. In a new tweet he wrote that he loves the anime film Your Name and, when asked by some fans, confirmed that he also likes older classic films from the famous cartoon director Hayao Miyazaki. He also likes the Evangelion series, which is known for its meter-sized "Mecha".

In the conversation, Musk also said that the time has come to build such a "mecha". This means huge, human battle robots that are used in many science fiction works. They are often equipped with oversized rifles or melee weapons and, like real people, can have posable arms and legs.

What sounds like a joke at first could be meant seriously. The giant flamethrower called "Not a Flamethrother", which was sold out within a very short time, was initially taken to be just a joke. Even The Boring Company, which researches hyperloop traffic systems, is said to have originated from a joke. It is uncertain whether we will actually see battle-ready giant robots in the near future. But a good example of what such a colossus could look like is the almost 20-meter-tall Gundam on the artificial island of Odaiba in Tokyo.
