How do I apply for BIA?

To apply for this master’s course, you have to register in the online portal on our website. A content check without an application is unfortunately not possible.

The following documents must be submitted by the application deadline at the latest:

  • Simple copy of your high school diploma
  • Simple copy of your bachelor's degree with at least 210 ECTS points and a final grade of 2.3 or better. It is necessary that you complete your bachelor's degree before the application deadline. If you can already foresee that this will not be possible in time, there is an interim solution: You can submit a certificate from your university in advance of the expected final average grade ("4.0 certificate"). This certificate must show that you have successfully completed all examinations, that the bachelor thesis has been submitted and that it is graded with at least 4.0. However, this option is only available to students at German universities, as the final certificate is mandatory for the recognition of international degrees.
  • Proof of 30 ECTS in the field of computer science and information technology (IT) as well as information management. We will check this knowledge as part of our application process.
  • Proof of English language skills at level B2
  • Proof of German language skills at level A1; We need the language certificate at the latest for enrollment

For the double-degree exchange semester in Argentina, the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional San Rafael also requires an apostilled copy of your bachelor's degree

What opportunities does the Master of Business Intelligence and Business Analytics open up?

Companies are exposed to constant change. Globalization is intensifying competition and digitization is creating immense amounts of data (big data). New technologies in the field of data mining, analytical databases and graphic visualization offer a variety of innovative possibilities for data analysis, compression and prediction.

The targeted use of business intelligence and analytics opens up new ways of converting data into knowledge. This practical knowledge enables the targeted management and control of companies and ensures successful corporate performance management (CPM).

The master's program "Business Intelligence and Business Analytics" provides students with the necessary know-how to plan and implement innovative concepts for BI strategies, BI organization and BI architectures using the latest technologies. Students become tooExperts in the field of business intelligence educated.

Through the compulsory semester abroad, students acquire intercultural skills that they can use in their future professional activities in international companies.

Graduates of the master's degree in Business Intelligence and Business Analytics can support international companies in the successful selection, implementation, application and maintenance of business intelligence solutions. They act as an interface between the management of a company and the IT department and coordinate these essential company areas with one another.

Typical areas of application are:

  • As a "data scientist" you act as an interface between IT and the specialist department or company management and can set up specific analytical models (e.g. in the area of ​​data mining) for operational tasks.
  • As a "BI specialist" you work in the IT department, look after integrated data warehouses and are able to select the data from the variety that are required for an operational task.
  • As a “business analyst” you will analyze company processes and be able to design company-wide BI strategies for them.
  • Extensive knowledge in the areas of IT, data analysis and corporate management also make them attractive candidates for corporate consulting.

Admission requirements

Which degree do I need?

You need a university degree with at least 210 ECTS points (or equivalent).

If you obtained your degree outside of the German school system, please note the additional regulations for applications with an international degree.

My university degree does not reach the required 210 ECTS. What can I do?

If you have a bachelor's degree with only 180 ECTS points, the existing qualification gap of 30 ECTS points must be provided through proof or successful completion of one of the following preliminary work:

  • Co-authorship of a research publication in English (research paper)
  • At least 6 months of verifiable full-time professional experience after acquiring the bachelor's degree in an activity relevant to the course content of the course (evidence by employment contract and / or job references)
  • Successful passing of an admission test in the form of a written academic paper in English. You can apply for participation informally in English and only by e-mail by May 24th.

Which grade do I need?

If my grade is not good, is there any way I can improve it?

Unfortunately, there is no way you can improve your grade if you don't get the 2.3 average required for admission.

What prior knowledge of the content do I need?

30 ECTS in the field of informatics / computer science and information technology (IT) as well as information management. These 30 ECTS must have been acquired in a previous university course at a state or state-recognized German or foreign university.

Of these 30 ECTS, ...

  • at least 5 ECTS from the basics of business informatics / IT or information management or from business IT applications.

What language skills do I need?
