Which one is right, Shawn or Sean

Sean, Shawn or Shaun?

Written by princessy on April 21, 2005, 2:17 pm

We have made this name one of the "shortlisted" choices for our newcomer. Just which spelling do you think is better?

Traditional (Irish) - Sean
or English modified - Shawn / Shaun?

Middle name should be Paul (Uropa).

Or do you find the name totally off the mark?

Our first son is called Dylan.

I look forward to your opinions!

Hello ;-)

I think Sean is great. Unfortunately it is very common in Ireland, but it sounds great and I would take this version too. And he goes well with Dylan, think both names are great ;-)

Sean Paul ?! Sure, why not, I think the names sound good together, but then I would just call him Sean.

Hello,

I also think the name Sean is very nice and to be honest, I only like this spelling.

I don't know if you know that there is a singer with the name "Sean Paul", but I don't know if this is written in the same way.
I think he's doing hip-hop.

Greetings, Jessica

Hi,

definitely write Sean, that's my son's name too! I wouldn't mind about the singer, even if it is written that way.

huhu
Sean is nice if it fits into the environment, also fits the brother, no other spelling!
the singer actually exists, but if you like the combination that much, stick with it

I would definitely write SEAN. Super nice name.
I don't like SEAN PAUL that much, because it reminds me a lot of that French Jean-Paul and I had a disgusting guy in class at the time who was called that.

Thank you for your nice answers - I wouldn't have expected so much encouragement! But I am pleased and encourages us in our plan. Well, let's see, there is still some time left, but having a preliminary decision is also something.

Oh: In any case, Sean should be the nickname. Unfortunately I don't know the singer, but hip-hop is cool! ;-)

I think Sean (but only in this spelling!) Is totally great. However, in Germany it will almost certainly be pronounced incorrectly (siin) or at best "schon" (spoken in German). Sean Paul is a great name, but I'm afraid not very suitable for Germany, at least not for the next few years.

Well, we like to see each other in a kind of "pioneering role" ;-) Since our first son is called Dylan, I know what you mean; I also had all sorts of concerns about his birth, but Germany is more suitable than you think, most people know and like this name. And at NOt the Bob stops ... (and then the ... Connery) ;-) there are probably worse things.

The first "Kevins, Julians, Marvins, Calvins and Lukes, Justins" also had this part. Time just moves on. Today all common names ...
