How is the sun created 1

Profile: The sun

to the overview KNOWLEDGE

The sun gives our solar system light and warmth. It sends heat and light rays to earth and thus makes life on our planet possible.

Solar energy from the core

Warmth and light arise deep inside the core of the sun.

There the pressure and heat are so great that hydrogen (one gas) turns into helium (another gas).

This creates heat and naturally also light.

What are sunspots?

When you watch the sun, it sometimes seems as if it has spots - sometimes more, sometimes less.

These are the so-called sunspots.

In these places the surface of the sun is cooler.

As a result, these areas do not emit as much light as the rest and look almost black.

Did you know?

Danger: You must never look at the sun through binoculars or camera lenses - you can become blind from that! The sun can only be safely observed through special filters that block over 99% of the sunlight.

The sun turns too!

The sun is part of a galaxy - the Milky Way. In 200 million years, the sun rotates once around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy - at a speed of around 220 kilometers per second!
